An ancient city located in the Mandalay region of Burma, Bagan contains over 2,000 temples and pagodas from between the 9th and 13th centuries. The locals are well used to seeing tourists nowadays as is has become a popular spot to take in some culture and a scenic balloon ride. Add to that gorgeous food and stunning sunsets in the warm weather, and its a perfect backpackers destination, where there’s loads to see and do.

Another great one for people doing the backpacking holiday, Ha Long Bay is famous for how beautiful many of its islands, beaches and coves are. Pamukkale, meaning “cotton castle” in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. The city contains hot springs and travertines and it is Turkey’s foremost mineral-bath spa because of its natural beauty: hot calcium-laden waters spring from the earth and cascade over a cliff. You can spend your evenings bathing in the natural springs, overlooking the city below, in what has to be one of the most naturally stunning locations on the planet.

Ok, so you might have to wrap up a bit for this one! Hotel De Glace in Canada is only open for three months of the year and has to built from scratch every year due to the fact it’s made almost entirely of ice and packed snow. As close as you’ll come to a five star igloo, the features in the hotel are renowned for wowing visitors each and every year. A great place to just chill out (sorry, couldn’t resist!) and unwind, a trip to this unique hotel is a must at some point on your travels.

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

If chilling out in warm lakes, surrounded by amazing waterfalls and gorgeous forest, away from the troubles of the world sounds like your idea of heaven, then you NEED to get to the plitvice lakes in Croatia. anyone lucky enough to find this hidden gem always raves about how beautiful it is, and from the pics we have you can see why. Imagine taking it all in on some warm evening with a nice drink and some friends for company? Heaven.

Ok, so this one obviously isn’t going to come cheap, but then, just look at it!! As far as dream locations go, it doesn’t really get much better than this! Bora Bora Island has an unforgettable turquoise lagoon – where the likes of sting & manta rays, sharks, tropical fishes can all be observed by canoe, boat or diving explorations. The coral reef includes a string of islets and gorgeous white sand beaches surrounding the main island, and it’s ideal as a romantic getaway for any couple lucky enough to be able to afford a stint away in the beach huts that cross the lagoon below.

Moraine Lake, Canada

Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake in Banff National Park, Canada. Peaceful and secluded, it makes it an ideal spot for someone looking to escape life for awhile and take things at a slower pace. The surrounding mountains look stunning topped with snow, and the deep blue of the lake itself is just as beautiful. this is one of those places that anyone who is into the outdoors lifestyle simply HAS to see at some point.

Ubud Hanging Gardens , Bali

Pure and utter luxury, this is the place you’ve all dreamed of heading off to and leaving the miserable Irish climate behind.

Phi Phi Islands, Thailand

Back to Thailand (it’s just that nice!!) and located between Phuket and the western side of the main coastline, this little group of islands was made famous by the Leo DiCaprio movie The Beach. Very popular with tourists and anyone who’s ever been there, these islands are home to local fishermen and their families and offer up a stunning array of beaches to explore. A must see for anyone doing the Asian experience, there’s just so much to Thailand that it simply demands to be explored.

Santorini, Greece

About 120 miles south of Greece’s mainland lies this island paradise. Built on the remains of a volcano, this gorgeous fishing town offers plenty of relaxation and places to be wined and dined for you foodies out there! Named “the world’s best island” by a BBC poll, the area thrives on it’s idyllic, sun kissed location to draw in tourists from all corners. Definitely worth considering for those of you thinking of travelling to Greece at some point, as it has something different to offer than the usual package holiday destinations.

Zermatt, Switzerland

It’s not all sun and sand that equals travelling perfection; This picturesque town is famed for it’s beautiful views of the Alps, while offering all the mod cons of a city break as well. The area has decent shopping for those that like to spend their hard earned cash on local fashion, as well as some top class restaurants for eating out. Perfect for a skiing break or just as a getaway to unwind and kick back, as long as you don’t mind wrapping up warm for the colder climate!

Hotel Kakslauttenan, Finland

A definite on my own bucket list, these self contained igloo style rooms offer a unique opportunity – a night under the stars, looking up at the aurora borealis, snug in the surrounds of a top class hotel room. Gorgeous and a once in a lifetime experience, we’re guessing that this break away isn’t the cheapest on offer, but some experiences are worth paying for.

Sea of Stars, Maldives

Yup, I know I showed you all this amazing little beach recently, but it simply has to make this list. A rare breed of marine microbes in the water give off a bioluminescence, giving the effect that the stars in the sky are strewn all over the beach at night. The result is magnificent, simply one of the most breathtaking things you’ll ever see, and for that reason it should be top of pretty much every bucket list of places to seek out on your travels.
