With blockbuster season fast approaching, heres a look ahead at the biggest and best movies of the summer…
Men in Black 3 – 25th May
Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are joined by Josh Brolin in this sequel to the popular franchise. Smith’s Agent J must travel back in time to prevent an alien assassinating Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K, with Brolin playing the young version of Agent K in what looks like a helluva lot of fun!
Prometheus – 1st June
Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender star in this sci-fi epic. Ridley Scott returns to the world of his “Alien” movies, after almost 33 years away from the franchise, for this prequel of sorts. Expect chills and thrills as a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe.
Snow White and the Huntsman – 1st June
Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron star in what could be one of the biggest movies of the summer. In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen. With stars Stewart and Hemsworth among the hottest in Hollywood right now, this one looks suitably epic and should be great fun.
Red Lights – 22nd June
Robert DeNiro, Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver star in this very dark and tense psychological thriller. A psychologist and her assistant study paranormal activity, which leads them to investigate a world-renowned psychic. Director Rodrigo Cortes has proven himself a master of suspense having previously helmed the Ryan Reynolds starring “Buried”. This is one sure to be full of twists and jumps and could be the perfect antidote to all the colourful superhero movies populating our screens.
The Amazing Spider-Man – 4th July
A reboot of a film only 10 years old? Director of the last three movies of the franchise replaced? Many thought when this movie was announced the web-slingers days would be numbered but with a great cast and the promise of a great villian, this is looking more and more like another Marvel smash hit. Andrew Garfield dons the mask and tights while the gorgeous Emma Stone provides the romantic spark in a new take on Spidey’s origins.
The Dark Knight Rises – 20th July
The conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman saga draws nearer and anticipation has reached fever-pitch. All but guaranteed to be the biggest film at the box office the story takes us eight years after Batman took the fall for Two Face’s crimes. A new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy. Details on the plot remain scant and the trailer only teases at whats in store but one thing is sure, this is the movie everyone wants to see this summer.
Brave – 17th August
The latest offering from Pixar & Disney is about a princess determined to make her own way in the world. Set in the Scottish highlands, the film looks beautiful and Pixar are a studio that can do no wrong. Expect queues of kids everywhere to take over cinemas when this gets released! Great fun for all the family.
The Bourne Legacy – 17th August
Jeremy Renner takes over the reigns in the action spy franchise, with his new operative picking up where Matt Damon’s Bourne left off. Hoping to build and expand on the Bourne universe, this movie explodes onto our screens with big boots to fill. Here’s hoping Renner can deliver and continue on the series that Bond has yet to match up to.
Total Recall – 22nd August
A remake of the Schwarzenegger sci-fi cult classic, set in a future with two world superpowers vieing for power, this one sees Colin Farrell’s factory worker begin to suspect that he’s a spy, though he is unaware which side of the fight he’s on. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at some early footage and Im glad to say that Farrell certainly delivers on the action front and the effects look suitably spectacular. One for adrenaline junkies to keep on their radar.
So guys, thats a taste of what to expect in the weeks and months ahead. Let us know here what film you’re most looking forward to this summer and beyond!!!
