Less than a week ago we brought you the story of Katie Papworth, a terminally ill teen who was a massive Ed Sheeran fan. After getting to finally meet her idol, Katie surprised the singer by proposing to him…and he surprised everyone by saying yes.
It is with a heavy heart that we’re bringing you the news that Katie tragically passed away early this morning. Ed has since tweeted to express his sadness at the news.
“So devastated to hear Katie has passed away. Prayers are with her family,”
Lea Hoey from the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation, the organisation that helped Katie to meet Ed, has also spoken to the media:
‘We’ve been told Katie passed away peacefully this morning. It was a privilege to have helped make Katies dream come.’
Ed was moved by Katie’s story and her battle with brain cancer and when she proposed he decided to make her wish come true and said yes. He even signed a painting she had done “Dear Katie, lovely to finally meet my wife.”.
Our thoughts are with Katie’s family during this tragic time. RIP Katie.
