Ten things you didn’t know about: Victoria’s Secret!

download

The annual Victoria’s Secret was filmed in London this week and oh my God, how amazing did the angels look? The show itself will be aired on Tuesday, Dec. 9, on CBS, and if the pictures I have seen on Facebook and Instagram are anything to go by, it was an incredible show.

I really hope there’s no truth in the rumours about Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio hanging up their wings for good this year. They are two of my favourite angels!

Anyway, in light of the show taking place, I decided to put together a list of ten fun facts about Victoria’s Secret, including the names of the hair and makeup products used in this year’s show!

Enjoy!

1. 30 makeup artists tended to the 47 models at this years show. 10 of those makeup artists concentrated solely on the application of body makeup! To create a natural youthful look for this years show, a bright red cream face paint by Krolan was used in place of blush. A touch of the paint was blended into the models cheekbones directly before the foundation was applied. The models sported a smoky eye look which was created using three shades of Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color: Sable, Caviar, and Shoyu. The mascara used was Victoria’s Secret V.S Makeup Volume Lift.

2. Irish model, Rosalind Lipsett, once came very close to being cast as a V.S model when she made it to the final selection. Ros has auditioned for the Victoria’s Secret brand three times.y (1)

3. The V.S brand selects models based on their appeal to female customers. Should a model lose that appeal, she will be replaced. This was the rumoured reason behind Erin Heatherton’s absence from this year’s show. It seems the brand felt that her relationship with Leonardo DiCarprio made her less popular amongst female consumers. Similarly, Naomi Campbell was never invited to be an angel as it was felt that female consumers could not relate to her.

4. Not even the longest serving V.S supermodels are guaranteed a place in the annual show. Each year, every single model has to re-audition for her place.

5. When a Victoria’s Secret model becomes an angel, she effectively becomes a celebrity and a permanent fixture in the media spotlight. To help the models deal with this level of attention, each girl has to undergo a thorough media program.

6. The first Victoria’s Secret fashion show, which took place in 1995, cost over €100,000 to stage. Today, the show costs over €10 million.

7. The shops are all designed to resemble Victorian boudoirs. The Victoria’s Secret brand is actually named after Queen Victoria, Britain’s 19th-century monarch. Ironically, Queen Victoria was famously prudish!

8. In order for a model to qualify for consideration for Victoria’s Secret, they must meet the minimum height requirement of 5’9.

9. The strict exclusivity of the ‘Angel’ title makes it one of the most coveted jobs in the modelling world. Many celebrities have requested to be made honorary Victoria’s Secret angels but all have been refused!

10. To create voluminous hair, the show’s hairstylist applied Victoria’s Secret Mega-Lift Mousse to damp roots before then blow drying the hair and using a ghd Tri-Zone Styler to create curls. Large hair rollers were then applied and left to set while the models were having their makeup applied and rehearsing for the show. Before the show kicked off, the rollers were removed and the curls softened. The look was then finished with a slick of Victoria’s Secret So Sexy Shine Serum.

Hope you enjoy the show!

Sue xx
