Hello December!

December …  my favourite month of the year!

I can’t believe this year has gone so fast – it feels like only yesterday it was January, and Dylan and I were starting the countdown to what would become the biggest, most special, day of our lives – our wedding day.

This year has been an amazing one. Professionally, personally and everything in between … but what really stands out for me is August 5th, the day I married my soulmate. I feel so fortunate that I met the man of my dreams … and believe me I had to go through my fair share of frogs before I met him!

That day, Saturday, August 5th 2017 where the sun shone through the church windows as we exchanged our vows on the altar, surrounded by the people we love, promising to love each other in sickness and in health for the rest of our lives, is a moment I will cherish forever. Marriage really is a beautiful thing, and I can’t wait for all the chapters we are about to write together as husband and wife. Fast forward nearly 4 months, we are coming close to drawing the curtains on 2017 and in one way, I will miss it, but in another, I am SO ready for 2018.

For me, December has always been the month where I look back on the last 12 months and summarise a few things. I ask myself the following questions from a personal and professional manner:

  • What have I learned?
  • What have I loved?
  • What experiences have I endured? Positive/negative? What were their teachings?
  • What have I gained?
  • What have I lost?
  • What has made me happy?
  • What has made me sad?
  • What goals have I ticked off my list?
  • What regrets do I have? What would I do differently and so on?

Overall, I find this really helps me, my frame of mind, and it tends to put me on the right track. In saying that, I am quite hard on myself, but I do believe that this is the medicine for growth and also for keeping my mind humble. As with any success, the number of opportunities, finances and responsibilities will grow, and because of this, I like to keep my head in the game and my feet firmly fixed to the ground.

December is a month where I get myself motivated and enjoy the festivities and love that fills the air. There is nothing like driving down the road with Christmas lights everywhere, trees lit up, children laughing, families out shopping together, people smiling, and to top it all off, the most feel-good music blaring through the speakers of the car or shopping centre. It really is a magical time. Taking all of that into consideration, I have decided to take on a new challenge and task this month and that is VLOGMAS!

For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s when YouTubers film themselves every day going about their lives and then they upload each individual video to their YouTube channel. It’s always really festive and in the past, I have really enjoyed watching the VLOGMAS content produced by some of my fave bloggers, such as Lydia Elise Millen, Erika Fox, Amelia Liana etc. So while I am not a YouTuber, (and pretty shit at editing, I have to admit, ha!), I have promised myself to get back into YouTube next year and give my channel a real go. Taking all of that into account, I figured this would be an amazing way to throw myself into the deep end and try out some new content, and maybe you guys will like it too 🙂

On a more serious note, I don’t want anyone reading this to think for one second that I’m glossing over the fact that Christmas isn’t always the nicest time for people. We all have our struggles, and for a lot of people, these struggles can become magnified during the festive season. There’s no doubting that this time of year can be a very hard time for some people. Sometimes people feel even more alone in their troubles at Christmas because it’s the one time of year that the collective mood is one of happiness and enjoyment. The reality, however, is we all have our problems and our burdens to bear, regardless of what time of year it is. So if you think someone you know might be finding this time of year difficult to cope with, let them know you’re there should they ever need someone to chat to.

For some, that reassurance could be the best gift you could possibly give them.

Happy Christmas guys and please don’t forget to Subscribe to my channel here 🙂
