My New Years Resolutions – 2016!

Hi guys!

Hope you’re all having a great Wednesday!

So this week I have been thinking a lot about my goals for the year ahead. Each year, I take some time to write down a list of things I want to achieve because it helps me get clear view of what I want to achieve and what action I need to take.

We all have dreams we would love to make happen but I think it’s only when you write them down that you bring some clarity to each one. I find having a goal gives me great focus. Yes it can seem a little daunting at first but as you work through towards it a little bit at a time, it all starts to feel very real and exciting.

If you have no idea of where you want to go or what you want to achieve, don’t worry. Everyone has been in that situation. All you need to do is set aside an hour and think what you would like to achieve if there were no obstacles in your way.

Think about January 2017. When you look back on 2016, what is it that you would be proud of saying you achieved?

If you didn’t achieve the goals you set for last year, don’t beat yourself up about it. Just pick back up where you left off and promise yourself you won’t quit. Don’t over-pressurise yourself either. Sometime’s goals take longer than 12 months.

When I list my goals, I always include a mixture of short-term and long-term. Even if they sound crazy and outlandish, I still write them down.

Once they’re written, I put the notebook away and I don’t look at it until the following January when I go to tick off the ones I achieved. I’m not saying you should do that too. It’s just what works for me. I find that if I were to keep looking at them throughout the year, I would lose motivation because I would feel as though I wasn’t making progress. Instead, I prefer to give myself the year to achieve them.

While I managed to tick off most of last years list, there’s still a few that I didn’t see through to fruition, so my goals for this year will include those as well.

I’m not going to reveal all my goals, but I am going to share 5 with you!

1 – Travel

Suzanne-Jackson

As I already highlighted in my 2015 Year In Review post, I really enjoyed the trips Dylan and I took last year so I really want 2016 to be the year we tick off a few more places, particularly Dubai, Thailand, Las Vegas and L.A.

I’m so lucky that I can work from wherever I am in the world as long as I have my laptop and good WIFI, and plus you guys loved the previous travel posts, so I really want to do more of that this year.

2 – Grow My YouTube Channel

This was one of last years goals!

I had intended on really building my YouTube channel last year because I know that you guys really enjoyed my previous videos. In the end however I became so busy with the SOSU products that I just didn’t have the time. Also, I was concentrating a lot more on fashion blog posts so in the end the YouTube Channel took a back seat.

This year however, I will be throwing myself into working on the channel and I plan to post at least one video a week. Now that we have a house, I have way more space than I did last year, so over the coming weeks I’m going to set up a filming room. Recording just one YouTube video can be very time consuming so it really helps to be organised and have everything in one place.

If there’s a particular type of video you would like me to record, just post your suggestions in the comment box below!

3 – Save

This was a goal I started last January and one I’m really proud to have stuck with which is why I’m continuing it through to this year.

I pushed myself to save and this year I want to push myself even more. Because I work for myself, a savings account gives me that peace of mind. It’s like a protection fund should something unexpected happen. And of course, it improves my credit rating too.

4 – Join A Gym

I practically lived on Domino’s Pizza last year so much so that we would get messages and calls from them most days about discount codes, etc. haha! Well this year, I want to make a big change.

It’s great to treat yourself to a pizza but making it a regular thing is not good for the health. I honestly keep forgetting that I’m 31, not 21, and that I can no longer eat what I want without suffering any consequences.

The goal this year is to be healthier and fitter. Last year I attempted to get fit but I was half-assed about it mainly because I was so busy. I’m not letting myself use that as an excuse this year. I want to feel better and fitter, and exercise accompanied by a healthy diet is by far the best way to do that.

Of course I have the added motivation of a wedding to prepare for! I know it takes 12-18 months to achieve the body I want which is why I want to start now. Most importantly of all, I think a regular exercise routine will be a great stress reliever for me. I’m a worrier by nature, and because I have a very busy job, I do tend to stress quite a bit.

This year I really want to tackle that side of things. A new exercise routine will be as much benefit to my mental health as it will to my physical health.

5 – Less Stressed & More Content

This year I’m going to keep the head down and not let anything distract or discourage me from my goals.

I want to work on creating the best possible life and career, and to concentrate less on stress and more on happiness and contentment (again that’s where the exercise will come in handy!)

There were definitely times during the past 12 months where, like a lot of self-employed people, I put myself under enormous stress and pressure. I know that if I were to continue doing that, I would reach breaking point which is something I certainly don’t want!

So, in a nut shell, these are just a few of the personal goals I have set for myself.

I’ll keep you posted on how I’m getting on with them!
