So, we decided to do a little digging and find out his various nuggets advice on how to keep skin a-glow so that the resulting makeup application is flawless to a point where even Queen Bey would approve.

Here’s what we found:

Sir John Says: First and foremost, hydrate

Sire John’s number one tip is hydration. Hydrated skin means beautiful healthy-looking skin. And of course, when skin is hydrated, it makes a huge difference to how your makeup looks when applied.

To keep skin super hydrated, Sir John loves to use: L’Oreal Pure Clay Mask, Ren Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask and Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir.

Sir John Says: Massage skincare products into the skin

Rather than slapping on moisturiser/primer/etc, take the time to massage it into the skin.

Massaging the skin is a great way to stimulate the facial muscles and help boost circulation which in turn, will help your complexion look much brighter.

Sir John Says: Mattify the centre of the face

When it comes to adding a glow to the complexion for photos, Sir John’s advice is simple: illuminating products should at times be kept away from the centre of the face.

To prevent the face from looking oily or too shiny in photographs, Sir John will often mattify the centre of the face and instead applies a luminising product around the edge of the face.

He is a big fan of using L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique Primer.

Sir John Says: Juice carrots

This is our favourite tip from Sir John!

Whenever one of his celeb clients has a big event coming up, he advises them to drink a fresh carrot juice the night before as they will “literally see the results overnight.”

Sir John has often spoken about advocating the holistic approach to skincare and believes that the trick to healthy looking skin is an anti-inflammatory diet, juicing, and exercising to sweat out the toxins.

The sign of a great makeup application is when the person doesn’t look like they’re wearing makeup. They look naturally fresh and glowy.

To perfect this look, Sir John recommends that you start light and build up the coverage so that you are concealing the imperfections but still letting the skin shine through so that the end result is as natural looking as possible.

Rather than opt for a coverage-heavy foundation, Sir John recommends using a hydrating moisturiser followed by a tinted moisturiser, and then apply concealer where needed. An under-eye highlighter also helps of course!

If you want to pick up a really good tinted moisturiser, we would recommend: Urban Decay Naked Skin One and Done Hybrid Complexion Cream, BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating MoisturiserElizabeth Arden Tinted Moisturiser, or the renowned, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser.

Sir John Says: Invest in a skincare cleansing device

For a deep cleanse, Sir John recommends using a skin cleaning device. He also warns all his clients never to go to bed without removing all makeup product from their skin.

Sir John also advises getting a weekly enzyme peel.
