Burberry have released the most incredible trailer for a film about the life of Thomas Burberry, the man who created the iconic brand.
The film – titled ‘The Tale of Thomas Burberry’ – carries all the hallmarks of a winning blockbuster, from the gripping story to the star studded cast featuring our own Domhnall Gleeson, Sienna Miller, Dominick West and Lily James.
But there’s a catch.
The film doesn’t exist!
The trailer is part of Burberry’s Christmas campaign and also a celebration of the label’s 160th anniversary. However given the reaction to the trailer, a film could yet happen.
In the trailer, Domhnall Gleeson stars as Thomas Burberry while Dominick West takes the role of the Antartic explorer and Burberry patron, Ernest Shackleton.
Sienna Miller plays the part of Thomas Burberry’s fictitious first love while Lily James takes the role of the pilot Betty Kirby-Green, who once flew a record-breaking 1937 flight in a plane sponsored by Burberry.
During the flight she was also famously dressed head-to-toe in Burberry.
Throughout the ‘film trailer’, the cast can be seen wearing pieces from current Burberry collections as well as custom-made replicas from the Burberry Heritage archive.
The whole production looks amazing and would be a definite hit if it were to be released as a film!
Lily James echoed everyone’s thoughts when she told an interviewer recently that she would love for the actual film itself to be made.
She said, “I want there to be a full movie, and with the amount of footage we shot, I’m sure they could have made a film. We invested in the characters, and it was shot like a normal film.”
Burberry’s Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey said the film was Burberry’s way of sharing the story of their innovative creator.
Bailey explained, “This Christmas, as we celebrate our 160th anniversary we wanted to tell the story of Thomas Burberry—pioneer, inventor, innovator, and the man behind the iconic trench coat—in our own words. The film we have made is a brief glimpse inspired by his full and extraordinary life, which threaded its way through the history of the 20th century in all its tumultuous highs and lows.”
