Tips To Help You Feel Good This Winter

quote 1

From the post-Christmas buzz-kill, to the ever present rainy weather, (not to mention the guilt from not having stuck to those New Years resolutions), we know only too well how hard it can be to feel motivated, focused and upbeat during the bleak winter months.

While we love nothing more than an evening in front of the TV (with a pizza of course!), getting motivated means getting up and out!

Here are a number of productive things you can do to help you feel a little more focused, motivated and energised again this winter.

Wrap up & embrace the fresh air

This might seem like a very obvious one, but it’s definitely one of the most effective.

Throw on the layers and get outside for a brisk walk or a cycle in the crisp air. If it’s raining, head to the local swimming pool. We’re not talking about doing laps of the pool or the park, just get out there and get moving at your own pace.

If you want a more social environment, try a class such as kickboxing or pilates. You need to choose something that you can look forward to. If you dread it, you won’t stick to it.

A great idea would be to ask your local rescue shelter if they are currently looking for volunteers to walk their dogs.

Regardless of what you do, there’s nothing like that feeling you get after an hour of being active. Exercise in any form is going to give you a lift and leave you feeling amazing both mentally and physically.

Himalayan Salt Lamp

Some people swear by these, but as always, when it comes to buying a new product, you need to carry out your own research and see if it’s the right one for you.

The way a Himalayan lamp works is that it releases negative salt ions into the air when heated, and these ions are said to then result in benefits such as increased levels of serotonin in the brain, as well as improved sleep and blood flow.

Lots of health shops stock these and they’re also available in a range of sizes and prices. The size you opt for will depend on the size of the room you want to keep it in.

Shake up your surroundings & get organised

For some people, January is the ideal time to switch things up and do a little organisation in, or renovation of, the area in which they spend the most time.

Your home has a massive impact on how you feel so changing these surroundings, even just a little, can often be like giving your environment a breath of fresh air and a new lease of life.

If you want to makeover a bedroom, a sitting room, a home office, etc, you should check out sites such as Etsy, and eBay, etc for stylish and often quirky buys. There’s also lot of websites out there on which people post items they want to shift immediately, so they offer them for free. If you are on a tight budget, or if your news years resolution is to save more and spend less, then those websites are definitely worth checking out. For some creative inspiration, get yourself over to Pinterest.

Sometimes, even a simple de-cluttering of your wardrobe and personal belongings can leave you feeling more organised and content, so help yourself de-stress by de-cluttering your personal space.

Keeping things you no longer use serve no other purpose than taking up space, so if you feel like you’re hoarding a lot of accessories, jewellery pieces, etc, you should have a look at some items that will help you organise the things you want to keep.

For rings, earrings, and necklaces check out this fab wall organiser. Don’t forget to have a look in shops such as Home Store & More for lots of storage options.

Healthy food = healthy mind

quote

If you’re feeling sluggish and unmotivated, take some time to have a look at your daily diet and maybe consider which parts need some revising.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean boring, just have a look at Pinterest and YouTube for ideas on how to create super healthy dishes with lots of taste and flavour.

Once you transform your daily diet and up your intake of the veggies and other super foods, you will start feeling much more energised.
