Semi permanent eyelashes are a fantastic way to enhance the natural shape and contour of your eye. They are a revolutionary beauty product that have really taken off in the last couple of years. The reason why they are so popular, is because they offer a better alternative to false eyelashes or as some people know them as ‘strip’ eyelashes.
The process is slightly different with semi permanent lashes though, which involves tiny, single lashes individually glued to the root of your own eyelashes. This gives your lashes a much more thicker, longer and fuller look. Depending on how many lashes you have put in, you can go from a very natural look to full on glamour.
Recently, I was invited out to a specialist eye salon known to many Irish celebs as: ‘Up To My Eyes’ in Greystones. I was meeting owner Elaine McParland to have the full lash extension experience. Elaine’s clients include models: Georgia Salpa, Rosanna Davison, Roz Purcell and TV Presenter Elaine Butler Doolan to name but a few.
Elaine trained in the art of lash extensions in Sydney before coming back to Ireland; initially building her client base by working from her home before setting up the current business ‘Up To My Eyes’ in 2008.
The salon was stunning, all things pink and glitzy as I arrived for my appointment. Of course before your appointment, there is a client consultation; an detailed step in determining the personalised look you are hoping to achieve. If you’re unsure about what will suit your eye shape, Elaine will be able to recommend and guide you through the options, which range from the choice of either silk or acrylic, to the glue used as well as length, colour & curl of each lash.
First a collagen eye mask is applied to treat and protect the surrounding area. Then Elaine began applying the lashes. You’ll feel nothing as each lash is intricately placed on to each and every one of your own lashes, with the experience being so relaxing, I actually took a nap, which Elaine says – most clients do. If you’re not the snooze type, ‘Up To My Eyes’ also provide some complimentary services including reflexology & Shellac Manicures which can be done while you’re having your lashes applied.
I am a girlie girl for sure- you all know that for now but it also VERY important for me to remain as far away from the fake and tacky look as much as possible! But when it came to viewing my lashes after the treatment- the natural finish was what struck me the most.
Longer, fuller, with a natural curl and not a hint of drag queen or falseness to be seen. I was given my after care advice sheet – explaining the things you can and cannot do for the next 24hrs and how to look after lash extensions – so they last as long as possible. I then headed home with more fuller, flirty and eye catching eyes!
