According to movie bible Empire Magazine, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is officially the greatest movie of all time. The magazine polled more than 250,000 film fans and asked them to vote on the 301 greatest films of all time, to celebrate their 301st issue.
George Lucas’ space opera topped the poll, knocking The Godfather off the top spot (the mag did a similar poll in 2008). The list is obviously subjective but where are the emotional dramas, the powerful thrillers, the wonderful kids films that all deserve their place among the very best? It’s as if the list was mainly compiled by the cast of The Big Bang Theory.
Anyway, enough moaning from me – below are the top 20 greatest movies of all time, per Empire’s poll.
1. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
2. The Godfather
3. The Dark Knight
4. The Shawshank Redemption
5. Pulp Fiction
6. Star Wars: A New Hope
7. The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring
8. Jaws
9. Raiders Of The Lost Ark
10. Inception
11. Blade Runner
12. The Lord Of The Rings; The Return Of The King
13. Goodfellas
14. Fight Club
15. The Godfather; Part II
16. Avengers Assemble
17. Back To The Future
18. Jurassic Park
19. Aliens
20. Apocalypse Now
While I have major issues with the most of the top 20 on a personal level (all of them are American made, english language films and the oldest is from the 70’s – I mean while I love Avengers Assemble, there were probably 20 films that YEAR that better deserve to be on that list) I am curious to know what you make of the top 20 and how many of them you have seen??
Have your say below.
