Thailand: Day 1

Hello from sunny Thailand!

The local time here is 8pm and while we have a bit of spare time before dinner, I thought I would jump on and blog a little bit about our trip and what we got up to during our first day here.

So for those of you who may have missed my social media posts, myself and Dylan are spending a week here in Khoa Lak, Thailand and boy is it amazing!

The funny thing is, I never really had the travel bug! I was the only one out of all of my friends who didn’t go travelling a few years back. My friends all packed their bags in September 2009 and followed their wanderlust.

Since then, only one of them, Jessica, has returned home, (she’s actually one of my bridesmaids!)

Long wait at Heathrow Airport! Lots of you were asking about my tan. It’s the Bellamianta Tan I’m trying out at the moment.

Anyway, when my friends started travelling, their first stop was Thailand and I remember looking through all of their Facebook updates and photos at the time and feeling like I had really missed out.

I think the reason I never had that desire to take off around the world though is because I’m such a home bird! I get home sickness when I go to County Cork for Gods sake! No I kid you not, haha! So because of that, the whole travel thing was never really for me.

I loved my comforts too much! I love a cup of tea in my housecoat by the fire, and also I would miss my family too much, so personally it just wasn’t something I never envisioned myself doing.

Fast forward 7 years however and here I am – in Thailand! Ok, granted we’re not doing the whole ‘travel’ thing and heading off for a few months, but we’re still here, experiencing Thailand!

Only today we booked in some fun excursions that will feed my whole ‘missing out’ fear from all those years ago.

It’s such a stunning place. Unbelievable beauty! We’re staying in the J.W Marriot Hotel in Khao Lak – which is a stunning 5 star resort that received some tremendous reviews online.

We actually booked it through Secret Escapes again. We booked our trip to the Maldives through that site and we were so happy with the experience that we booked another trip with them. So far so good – well apart from our luggage situation!

The flight leaving from London for Bangkok was delayed by two hours and as a result they had to rush us off the flight when we landed to ensure we made it to our connecting flight to Phuket.

As a result our luggage was never transferred to the plane and didn’t arrive when we did. It was literally only delivered to our bedroom at 5pm, buy hey it could be worse.

It could have been LOST entirely and then I don’t know what we would have done then…eek! Honestly I dread to think about it.

As soon as it arrived, we freshened up and then headed out to the beach and to shoot some outfits (of course!)

With such a beautiful backdrop, it would be an absolute shame not to take pictures!

Here’s today’s outfit:

Although I am not ‘travelling’ as such, I still want to check out Thailand and take part in some day trips so I can really get a feel for this place.

When we met with the excursion team they kept recommending the elephant trek, and while although I’m sure it’s amazing, I we just see it as a form of animal cruelty. The heat here is SO HUMID. I can’t see how an elephant could possibly enjoy carrying tourists around in that heat.

To me, it just doesn’t seem fair on the animal, and so the whole experience doesn’t appeal to us.

I am so excited about the excursions we have planned. The first one starts tomorrow!

So far we have booked in 2, but we hope to book a 3rd as well if time allows for it.

It’s a day excursion, so tomorrow morning we will be heading off at 8 am and returning again late tomorrow evening.

We also plan to check out the markets here during the week, and maybe take in a night time trip around Phuket too. Apparently it looks so beautiful at night so that’s definitely on the cards!

Anyway, we’re about to head off to dinner now! I promise to report back tomorrow though and fill you in on the first day of our trip.

P.s. Big thanks to everyone who messaged me about the mosquito repellent!

Have a great weekend
