The star of Juno attended a human rights campaign conference for LGBT youths yesterday during the course of which she opened up about her own sexuality.
The 26 year old stated she wished to live an “open and authentic life”, before publicly coming out in front of the crowd. Ellen was visibly nervous during the speech but the support of everyone there helped her to through.
“I’m here today because I am gay, and because maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.”
Ellen revealed that she has suffered for years because of hiding who she is and because of the fear of opening up about things. Since the video which you can watch below (skip to about 4min 45 and watch on for the announcement), she has received loads of messages of support from friends, family and her peers in Hollywood.
