Newbridge Silverware is delighted to announce that it will showcase a pair of earrings, which were worn by Marilyn Monroe when she attended the premiere of The Rose Tattoo with Marlon Brando in 1955. The earrings were recently sold to an anonymous collector for a whopping $170,000 and will be on display at the Museum of Style Icons for a limited time only this summer.

The earrings will appear alongside the permanent collection of Marilyn Monroe garments and artefacts, which belong to Newbridge Silverware and are on display at the Museum of Style Icons in Co Kildare. The collection includes a pink Pucci dress, which was owned by Marilyn and a coat she wore in the 1957 movie, the Prince and the Showgirl. The Museum of Style Icons is open seven days a week and is free to the public. It is now one of the most rare and valuable collections of its kind in the world.

Marilyn’s clip-on earrings are composed of five strands of cascading rhinestones on each earring. The earrings feature in a number of iconic images of Marilyn attending the movie premiere and the Actor’s Studio benefit dinner with Brando. Marilyn wore the statement earrings with a floor length black evening dress, black gloves and a cream fur stole. The earrings are also believed to have been worn by Marilyn to the opening of The Middle of the Night on Broadway in 1956.

Speaking about the visiting items, Marie Brennan from The Museum of Style Icons commented –

“Everyone is fascinated with Marilyn Monroe and it is a testament to her appeal that these rhinestone earrings were sold for so much money. We are thrilled to be able to showcase them at the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge for the next few weeks and give our visitors yet another fascinating item to look at.”
