Hi everyone!
Rosanna here with my recipe of the week. I hope you enjoyed the protein blondies last week. 🙂
Today’s recipe is one of my favourite things to make… a smoothie!
Smoothies are a delicious way of getting plenty of good nutrition into your body in one go and I have one everyday without fail. Even when I’m travelling for work, I ask hotels to whizz me up a green smoothie to have with breakfast!
This frozen blueberry shake boasts anti-ageing blueberries which are the best food you can eat for a huge dose of wrinkle-fighting antioxidants.
The banana is an excellent source of vitamin B6. This is one of the essential nutrients needed for our bodies to produce serotonin. This is known as our ‘happy hormone’ because it’s the feel-good brain chemical which helps us to feel calm, relaxed and positive.
A nutrient-poor diet, digestive issues, food allergies and sensitivities and use of certain stimulants can all lower our levels of serotonin, leading to a more negative outlook, anxiety, sugar cravings, insomnia and depression.
Any one of you ladies crave chocolate when you have PMS?! That’s connected to low levels of serotonin!
This smoothie is a perfect way to satisfy those pesky sugar cravings and boost the brain all in one tasty, sweet ice-cold glass of goodness.
While pure fruit juices aren’t great to drink too often because the fibre has been removed and the sugars are absorbed immediately into your bloodstream, leading to a roller-coaster of blood-sugar spikes and crashes which impact our mood, this smoothie contains all of the fibre so the natural fruit sugar is more slowly absorbed. Just as nature intended!
I added in a handful of baby spinach to boost the health benefits of the smoothie, but you won’t taste it at all. I promise! The avocado helps to make it taste really smooth and creamy, and is full of the essential fats that we need each day for smooth skin and glossy hair.
I really hope you enjoy it… have a great week!
