If you’re in any way upset about the ongoing conflict in Israel at the minute, particularly the distressing images of the aftermath of the repeated bombings, then we suggest you probably dont read any of Joan River’s latest rant
The presenter sparked outrage a few weeks ago for ranting about how the Palestinians “started it” to TMZ cameramen (video below) and yesterday at LAX, when confronted by more cameramen she shouted her opinions at them again;
“When you declare war, you declare war. They started it. We now don’t count who’s dead. You’re dead, you deserve to be dead. At least the ones who were killed, were the ones with very low IQs,”
Rivers has repeatedly alluded to the fact that she thinks anyone who is critical of Israel’s military assault on Palestine is stupid and dumb. The list of such celebs, not all of whom Rivers has specifically called out, includes Rihanna, Mark Ruffalo, Russell Brand, Selena Gomez, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz.
While Rivers certainly won’t win over many people with her attitude as civilians, including many children, continue to bear the brunt of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, at least some of her fellow American presenters don’t share her attitude.
Comedian Jon Stewart summarized the attitude of Israel’s military action against Palestine the best, saying “Just merely mentioning Israel or questioning in any way the effectiveness or humanity of Israel’s policies is not the same thing as being pro-Hamas.”
