Day 5 & 6 – In The Caribbean!

download

Hi everyone!

I have to say, this holiday has been responsible for some of the best memories ever!

I’m not long back from diving, and oh my God, the experience was out-of-this world! I’m so glad I got to do it now!

Because we’re flying tomorrow night, I had to first be cleared for diving as it can be quite dangerous to dive in the 24 hours or so before before a flight. Apparently, if you fly too soon after diving, you can leave yourself at risk of decompression sickness. I think it’s more commonly known as “the bends.”

Once I got the go ahead, the fear kind of started to kick in! Don’t get me wrong, I was really looking forward to it, but I had to give myself one hell of a pep talk before I went under! I was shaking with the nerves! Of course, it didn’t help matters that I’d had a horrible nightmare last night about being devoured by a shark! I know, total stress-head! Haha!

I thought I would be a bit calmer after completing my first diving lesson with my super-experienced instructor Vaughn from Serenity Dive, but no such luck!

Following the lesson, Vaughn was bringing me out for my proper dive and when I tell you that I didn’t want to go, I’m not lying.. I was now even more nervous because you have to learn skills in case of an emergency and that just put the jitters into me even more!

One of the skills you have to learn is how to clear your mask of water if it becomes filled with water UNDER THE WATER. Well after x3 tries (in the shallow part of the sea), and me freaking out because it kept going up my nose, I finally got it, but I wasn’t confident. That made me super nervous… and I actually didn’t want to dive then.

What if that happened 40ft down was all I was thinking?? You can just rocket up to the surface because it’s dangerous on your lungs – so I was so scared. Shitting myself to be frank.

After much convincing from Vaughn – I gave in. I begged him to only take me as far as 10-20ft because I still felt new to the whole thing, and so, I was really apprehensive about everything. I kept imagining everything that could go wrong down there!

In the end, I put my breathing aspirates back in, told myself to cop the fu*k on took a deep breath and under we went, my heart was racing.

We slowly dived down a depth of 40ft that I didn’t even know I was doing at the time, and I am so happy I did it – it was AMAZING.

When you’re under there, it’s so jaw-droppingly beautiful, that you forget about the depth and you just start to relax and really enjoy it. It was so much fun, and  so surreal too. The fishes and coral reef ( I think it’s called) was amazing. I loved every second of it. And the colourful fish – wow.

Once you get over the initial nerves and just do it, you become addicted to the thrill! I’m already looking forward to my next dive!

If it wasn’t for the amazingly supportive Vaughn, I 100% would have bottled it! (And of course I would have regretted it for the rest of my life!) Thank you Vaughn for putting up with me freaking out! 🙂

I’m not an easy person to convince… and he did it and wow.. amazing is all I can say.

For anyone thinking of doing it, I say GO for it! It’s unbelievable under there and you will be so glad you did it.

Yesterday (day 4) Dylan and I went for a brisk cycle around the resort, which was such a laugh, even if I did nearly kill myself, especially because I was snapchatting you guys. haha.

We also went on another kayaking trip, which was the best craic, and we then finished off our day with a cocktail in hand as we watched the Caribbean sun set!

It. Was. Perfect!

I uploaded this photo of the sunset to Snapchat yesterday. (If you’re on Snapchat, you can follow me on sosueme_ie )

I can’t believe our holiday is nearly over though! 🙁 The time just flew by so quickly! Definitely not looking forward to the long flight home. UGH!

I think I’ve fallen head over heels in love with this place, and in particular that sunset, the place itself, the people, the food – everything! I will 100% be back.

Right I have to skip off for some grub and get a tiny head start on my packing!

Hope you enjoyed my updates 🙂

Lots of love

Sue xx
