Hey guys!
As promised, I’m back with another wedding post for you today!
Because I talk about my wedding plans quite a bit on Snapchat (sosueme_ie), I tend to get a lot of wedding-related questions there, from services I have booked to general wedding-related advice, tips, and tricks, that I have picked up throughout my wedding planning journey the last 18 months or so.
I think one of the most frequently asked questions has been about my choice of wedding hairstylist and my chosen hairstyle.
While I’m not going to reveal the hairstyle I have chosen, I’m more than happy to share with you the amazing hairdresser I have booked for my big day, and the equally as amazing hairdresser that will be styling my bridesmaids!
Those of you who have been following me for quite some time on social media, will know that for me, hair is a BIG deal when I’m getting ready for an event or a night out. I’m relatively good when it comes to makeup, so I’m not too worried about that side of things, but I’m brutal at hair! Unless my hair is done right, I don’t feel like myself, and if it’s done wrong, I just can’t relax, so as you can imagine, I was really eager to get just the right style sorted for my big day.
Before I get to my hair, however, I’m going to talk about my bridesmaid’s hair.
As you guys will know from previous blog posts, I have a pretty big bridal party! There’s 5 bridesmaids and 3 flower girls, and then of course there’s myself and my mam. That’s ten heads in total! To have one hairdresser do ten heads, in the one house on the morning of my wedding would just be manic! The whole party definitely wouldn’t fit too comfortably into my mam’s house either so what I have decided to do instead is book the bridal party into a B&B in Skerries, and they will have their hair and makeup taken care of there on the morning of the wedding.
On the morning of the wedding, myself and my mam will have our hair styled and makeup done in my mam’s house. It seemed like the best solution otherwise it would have been chaos, not something any bride needs on the morning of her wedding! Stressed.com (especially when two fussy sisters are involved ha).
For the bridesmaids and flowergirls, I needed to choose a hairstylist I could fully trust; one whom I knew could style their hair to absolute perfection without me having to go to B&B afterwards to make sure it was right. This is why I chose Jane from Red Velvet and two members of of her team, April and Stacey. I don’t think I would trust anyone else!
With the bridesmaids having robbed Jane on me, I needed to find another hairstylist that could give me my dream wedding hairstyle and also do an amazing job on my mam’s.
I wanted someone who would be very organised and also very calming. It’s so important to be surrounded by calming people on the morning of the wedding, I’ve been told – so you don’t get yourself into a tizzy over small things. I started to ask people in the industry, particularly bridal makeup artists, as to who their favourite wedding hairstylist was, and one name was mentioned a lot, if not every time, I asked that question was: Joanne Kelly.
I had never worked with Joanne before and straight away I looked her up on Instagram to check out her style. Immediately, I absolutely LOVED her styling technique, and the previous wedding styles she had created. I loved her upstyles, her down styles … I think every picture on her page had me in awe! She was just so good, I had to touch base with her.
Even though I had never met her, I just had a really good feeling about her, and typical Libran that I am, I always go with my gut feeling.
I contacted Joanne around last Feb/March and asked first of all if she was available on the date of my wedding and if I could book in a trial. It’s so important to book a hair trial a few months in advance so that you are 100% happy and confident with the style you have chosen. It’s also one more thing ticked off the list. Once Joanne confirmed she was available, we booked in the trial! Very exciting!
Joanne met us at my mam’s house and from the moment she walked in, I instantly loved her! She was very sweet, very friendly, dressed to perfection might I add, and we immediately just clicked! We started chatting about hair style ideas and inspiration, and the kind of look I wanted for my wedding day. After about ten minutes Joanne said the style would not be a problem and that it would be very easy to achieve, which really reassured me. Straight away, she got started. What I really loved most about her was how organised she was. Her tools were all in order and so clean too!
In my non-working life, I probably wouldn’t be the most organised – which is why I particularly love that trait in other people.
While Joanne was working on my hair, we chatted throughout and she talked my mum through what she would need to do to have her hair looking in tip top condition for the big day. She was so helpful and had lots of ideas for mam especially as mam wasn’t too sure about what style she should go for (and might I add is VERY FUSSY at the same time!)
When Joanne was finished with my hair, I was absolutely ecstatic. I couldn’t believe how well it looked and I don’t think I have ever seen it look as good! It was exactly what I wanted and turned out exactly how I envisioned it, if not better! I was just so over the moon!
Next, Joanne got started on my mam’s hair and at the end of that style, mam was absolutely thrilled with how the style looked, which was definitely a relief for me. I really want my mum to be happy as well. I think Joanne was at our house for around 2 and a half hours or so but in that short space of time, she absolutely nailed both looks.
Overall, I think Joanne was at our house for around 2 and a half hours or so but in that short space of time, she absolutely nailed both looks.
I’m so excited now to have her doing my hair for my wedding in August! And I’m really happy to have one more thing ticked off the to-do list!
