What I Wore: To My SOSU Launch & a Splurge Vs Save Options Too!

download

As you guys already know, the official launch party for SOSU BY SJ was held last Thursday night at Dublin’s chic and trendy 10 Ormond Quay. It was a wonderful night, and I am so unbelievably grateful to all who came along! I couldn’t believe how many people turned up. Events like this are always a bit nerve-wracking because you worry that no one will be there, but as it turned out, I had nothing to worry about as the venue was absolutely packed when I got there. What was supposed to be a party of 80 turned out to be a room of 200, all so supportive and caring – I was so overwhelmed. Thank you for being there, it means more than you know.

The night itself was so much fun. We had celeb DJ Frank Jeez spinning the tunes and we also had a SOSU nail bar set up so the guests could try out some of the new shades while they enjoyed their champagne and appetizers.

When I posted the details of my outfit on social media, a few readers questioned the logic behind my purchase of an expensive pair of Valentino Rockstud heels.

Normally, I’m a high street loving girl (seriously how many Penney’s hauls have I done by now?!) but given the night that was in it, I decided to splurge a bit, so I bought the Valentino heels I had wanted for so SO long. It’s not every day you launch your own gel nail polish collection, so it was kind of like a treat to myself to mark a very special occasion, and one that had come about following months of hard work.

In my book, What Happened Next, I wrote about my favourite shoes and why they were so special to me. When I invest in a piece, it is usually to mark an achievement. That way, the item becomes so much more than just a designer label. Instead, it symbolises an accomplishment of which I am very proud. For instance, I bought a beautiful pair of Louboutin booties to celebrate my book entering the bestsellers list. Now, every time I look at them, happy memories from my book launches and book signings all spring to mind. To everyone else, they’re just a pair of heels, but to me, they will always be so special because of what they represent.

The Valentino’s I wore on the night have been on my mind for what felt like an age, so I decided that this was the most appropriate time to get them. I went shopping with my mum and my best pal Jessica the day before the launch and when I tried them on with the jumpsuit, I knew I had my outfit for my launch night!
