New Year, New You!

new-years-meme

We all make fun of the ‘New Year, New Me’ posts we see online but the reality is that the fresh start of a new year is the perfect time to plan goals for yourself and re-evaluate your life.

Where’s the harm in someone stepping back, taking a look at where they’re at in their life and saying to themselves ‘ What’s next?’. There’s something about a new year coming that brings this out in us, we get a chance to start over.

Whether it’s that diet we all say we’ll begin when the silly season ends, or maybe a new career path – you can start fresh almost anywhere in your life.

We have some simple tips to help you clear out the old and begin anew…

Make plans, book that holiday, type up that cv and put yourself out there. Really think about whats in your heart, what makes you happy, what do you want to do with your life? And try it. I just watched this inspiring speech by none other than comedian Jim Carey (who’d have thought it?) where he makes a brilliant statement about failure – ‘You can fail at what you don’t want  so you might as well take a chance  on doing what you love’ – Amazing right?

So many of us take the safe options in life and end up feeling like something is missing. Try incorporate that ‘something’ somewhere in your life. We are also realists who understand that sometimes the safer option pays the bills and keeps a roof over our heads, so how can we fulfil the missing piece? Start a hobby, join a club – be creative. Do something that’s just for you and that gives you a little bit of your dream world in your every day life.

Pick up a sketch pad, start a blog, go for a run with the dog every night, begin an online course while the kids are at school, maybe even go back to college part time. It’s never too late to try again, no matter who you are, what age you are or what you do.

Make time for whats important. Visit friends and family more regularly. The people you love are worth more than a stressful job or a messy house. Put some of the stresses out of your mind and recharge with your loved ones. A simple coffee with friends or your favourite Aunt can lift you out of the every day mundane mood.

Text that person you haven’t spoken to in a while. be the one to say you’re sorry, don’t hold grudges and don’t have regrets. Sure, it mightn’t all work out but you’ll feel much better knowing you tried.

Another important thing to remember is not to put too much pressure on yourself when setting these goals. Nobody is perfect and nothing comes easy but if we try to live every day like its New Years Day we can always try better ourselves. We don’t always need it to be January 1st, we just need a new day every day and to be thankful that we have that chance.
