This Aspiring Model Is Changing The ‘Face Of Fashion’

18 year old aspiring model Madeline Stuart wants to change the face of fashion. The Australian teen has gone viral this week as images of her photoshoots appeared all over the internet and her fan base is growing and growing.

The reason for this should be irrelevant but her images are ‘unconventional’ in todays fashion standards. Madeline has Downs Syndrome. But that isn’t going to stop her from pursuing her dream of modelling. And she is paving the way for other people like her to do the same.

The fashion world is gradually evolving, thank god. The ‘size’ issue , while still a long way to go, has already broadened in some areas, with all body types becoming accepted. Because naturally, e all come in different size and shapes.

Madeline wants to change societys view of people with Downs. Her mother has spoken out on her behalf –

‘Maddy is so confident, she has no hang-ups. She is more than happy to parade around the house, showing me how gorgeous she is, with her hand up behind her head swaying her hips, as if to say ‘look at me,’
“Only when she gets lots of attention through social media will the modeling world look at her. This is unfortunate but true, and she really wants to change the way people discriminate against disability. People with Down syndrome can do anything, they just do it at their own pace. Give them a chance and you will be rewarded beyond your greatest expectations.”

Madelines outlook is marvellous, if society begins to accept people with Downs and thus any people with unconventional looks, be it with a disability or not, won’t that ripple through to anyone who feels different. Hopefully inspiring confidence in girls and boys just like her.

Steps are certainly being taken in the right direction – Last year saw NYFW feature its first downs syndrome model, American Horror Story actress Jamie Brewer took to the catwalk for Carrie Hammer. (pic above)
