As if there aren’t about a thousand reasons to already love Ed Sheeran, he goes and melts a million hearts with a beautiful act of kindness. The singer has accepted a proposal from a terminally ill fan, Katie Papsworth, when they met backstage at his gig in Glasgow on Thursday, just two weeks Katie lost her sight.
Katie, who’s only 19, also presented the singer with a painting she did of a Lego house and he left a touching note on the painting and for her.
‘Dear Katie, lovely to finally meet my wife,’
Katie’s mum Trish has since spoken about Ed’s touching gesture to the media, and has said that it’s given her daughter a huge boost and something to look forward to as she battles cancer.
“Katie took the picture of the Lego house she’d made and gave Ed a ring with an infinity symbol. Ed loved her artwork and asked if he could keep it for his wall. When she presented the ring he smiled and said, “I suppose I should say yes. OK.”
We already know Ed can dance and I’m sure we’re not the only ones here at SoSueMe HQ that hopes they have a first dance like this…
Katie overcame cancer in 2006 but three years ago the disease returned to her spine and recently claimed her sight. Simple stories like this remind us of the power that people in the spotlight have to really change someones life for the better and its so nice to see how humble and kind someone like Ed really is. He’s kept in touch with Katie for a while now and has been a huge help in her battle to remain well.
