How To Get VB’s Tousled Curls!

curls

How gorgeous are touseled curls?

They never fail to look amazing and are just the perfect style for Spring/Summer.

Earlier today, Victoria Beckham even posted a picture to Instagram of her glam squad curling her hair for a photoshoot with Ellen Von Unwerth and we can’t wait to see the end result! Our own Sue is also a big fan of the tousled trend and regularly rocks the look which she creates using her Instyler.

So, with Summer getting closer and closer, we decided to give you a step-by-step tutorial on how to create the tousled look for yourself!

(Don’t forget, if you want to see how Sue curls her hair, you can do so here and here)

1/ Prep

After washing your hair, spritz through with a good heat defense spray. You have to protect your hair from extreme heat. If your hair is dry and frizzy, it’s often because you are not protecting your hair when you use a heat appliance.

Sue often likes to use TRESemmé Heat Defence Styling Spray as it protects hair from heat of up to 230 degrees which is brilliant considering her curling tongs goes up as high as 200 degrees! Sue also likes to spritz some leave-in conditioner, Equave by 2 Phase, on to the ends of her hair as it makes her tresses more manageable.

2/ Blowdry

Once the styling products has been absorbed, start blow drying your hair while lifting it with a round brush for extra body.

Sue likes to use the Ionic 80 ceramic Headjog brush. She also blow dries her hair with the frizz-beating Turbo Stratos 3800 Ionic by the brand ETI, which you can read more about here here.

Once the hair is dry, it’s time to start curling! Start by clipping your hair into sections. Sue loves to use the Instyler for curling her hair.

Heated rollers such as the Babyliss Heated Rollers, are always good for creating a tousled look, as are a curling tongs or wand.

To start concentrate on the lower sections. Wrap a small section of hair around the tongs and hold for a few seconds before releasing.

Wrap the curl around your hand and using a bobby pin, clip it in place against your head. This is Sue’s favourite technique as it gives the curl more time to set so you get a stronger effect. Repeat the whole way around the head.

It’s pretty hard to pin your own curls in place but you don’t need to be a perfectionist about this. Just try to pin them up whatever way you can. Once they’re all pinned, mist with hairspray and then do your makeup while your curls are setting.

4/ Unpin!

Once the heat has left the curls (usually about 10-15 minutes after styling) unpin the hair, again starting with the bottom. The result should be a very curly one.

You can leave it like this if you wish, however if you want the tousled effect, brush through the curls. Sue likes to use her Great Lengths Paddle brush to do this.

If you don’t want to pin the curl in place, then the next best option would be to hold the curl after releasing it from the tongs before then letting it fall.

5/ To Finish

To seal your good work in place, you need a quality hair spray.

Sue likes to use TRESemmé Salon Feel Ultra Hold Hairspray because it has a really good hold and doesn’t leave her hair feeling sticky or hard.  suzanne jackson hair
