My Bridal Beauty Guide: Long Term Goals To Help You Prepare For Your Big Day

Hi guys!

As you may already know I recently gave a talk at the Ultimate Wedding Fair in Limerick. It was a huge hit and my tips went down so well with brides-to-be that it got me thinking about running a weekly bridal prep blog post on SoSueMe.

What do you guys think? Would you like that? 🙂

And before you ask, no I am not engaged!! Basically I received so many emails following my talk at the wedding fair in Limerick that I could see there was an appetite for wedding advice so I decided to start a series.

Each week my bridal blog post will centre around a different topic such as skincare, hair, makeup, etc, and anything else you wish to know about!

Today I’m going to kick off with a topic that is often overlooked during wedding prep but yet is the most important one of all. Well-being.

You can have the most amazing venue, the most incredible dress, the best hair and makeup team, but if you are not feeling good on the inside, trust me it will show.

There’s so much information out there on how to look your best on your wedding day, but what about feeling your best? Stress can do some crazy things to the body, both physically and mentally, and if you don’t look after yourself properly, you could be headed for a melt-down.

To ensure you feel your absolute best on your wedding day, the first thing you should do is set a number of specific goals. It’s a good idea to put these in motion around 15 months in advance. The months will fly by so it’s better to start as early as possible!

Here are the goals I would suggest:

1. Yoga / Pilates / Gym

One of the best things you can do is set aside time for a stress-busting activity. Yoga is HUGELY beneficial and equally as good for the body as it is for the mind. Pilates likewise is a great exercise and so useful as a stress-reliever. The Irish rugby team even practice it as part of their training regime!

If you need a boost of motivation, then I would recommend hiring a personal trainer. Shop around, they’re not as expensive as you might think.

Unless you’re really self-disciplined and committed, it can be difficult to stick to a gym routine. If you’re tired, it’s just all too easy to make an excuse not to go! Trust me, I completely understand! Dylan loves hitting the gym, but personally I prefer an exercise class. If I can’t make it to a class, I go out for a walk in the evening and get some fresh air. You 100% need to have a way in which you can clear your head. A cycle around the park, a brisk walk, whatever helps, do it! The combination of exercise and fresh air will greatly help your mood and relieve any pent up stress and anxiety.

Exercise will also help you with your energy levels, and you will probably find that your quality of sleep improves too. Planning a wedding involves a lot of work and multitasking. Exercise is one of the best ways to prevent the workload from taking its toll.

2. Replace the bad with the good!

If we’re being honest with ourselves, we could all stand to improve our diets. I know from my own experience that whenever I make a point of eating right, I always feel so much better as a result. If you change the type of food you eat for the better, you will absolutely notice a major difference in how you look and feel.

You don’t have to go hard-core healthy, just start by cutting out the crap. When you get a sense of how good you can feel on an improved diet, you will want to continue. You don’t need to restrict yourself, just try to make better food choices, particularly by cutting down on sugar-heavy foods. Try it for a month and you will feel like a new person by the end of it.

3. Drink more water

If you suffer from fluid retention, then it’s a good idea to drink one to two litres of water a day. When you’re not drinking enough water, the body starts to retain it and this is why fluid retention can make you look more bloated. If, however, you start drinking around 2 litres a day, your body won’t feel the need to retain the fluid. Your skin should also look beautifully clear as a result of increase water intake.

I remember reading an interview with the actress America Ferrera in which she said the best thing she ever did for her skin was to start drinking 2 litres of water.

4. Dental

If needed, fix any dental problems. When I first met Dylan, he had a big hang-up about his teeth and so, he was reluctant to smile in photos. I had wanted to improve my smile too, so he and I went through our Invisalign journey together. We both loved the results and the improvement had a knock-on effect on his self-esteem and confidence.

Dental problems can really affect your confidence. If you’re really conscious of your smile, then you should have a chat with your dentist about possible improvements. There are so many options available such as Invisalign braces, 6 month braces, temporary veneers, laser whitening, etc. If the price is out of your range, then ask your dental practice about a payment plan so you can pay it off over a certain length of time. There are always options available.

5. Start a vitamin plan

If you’re like me and on the road a lot or if you’re a busy mum always on the go, then give yourself a boost with a vitamin plan. I don’t recommend relying on a vitamin capsules alone. You absolutely need to be eating the right foods, but a vitamin supplement is a great way to give your body and mind an additional boost. I’m on the Juice Plus plan and I noticed a huge difference after I started it. I got my Juice Plus course from Julie Martin, so I would definitely recommend chatting with her if you have any questions about the range.

6. Meditate

I really want to start doing this myself. I have heard so many good things about the benefits of meditation. From what I have read about it, it’s a wonderful way to de-stress. All you have to do is find a quiet space and sit down with your eyes closed. I sometimes find it difficult to completely empty my mind as it’s always buzzing with ideas, blog stuff, and to-do lists, but apparently if you find your mind wandering, just concentrate on your breathing and you will be back on track.
