Wedding Bells At Skerries Church!

00

Hi guys!

Hope you’re all having a lovely Tuesday. Today I’m back with another wedding update.

If you have been following my new wedding blog then you will remember that Dylan and I had a meeting with our wedding planners last week (which you can read more about here) where we did a run through of the important topics to tick off the list as soon as possible.

Of course, one of the most important tasks on the list was booking the church.

As my local church is an hour away from our wedding venue, we toyed with the idea of getting married in a church that was a little closer by.

When to all came down to it however, I wanted to get married in the same church in Skerries where I received my baptism, my First Holy Communion, and my Confirmation.

Last month I rang local church in Skerries to see if we could book it for August 5th next year. As it turns out – this particular date is set aside to cater for baptisms…  so the church tends not to hold weddings on the same day as there is always the risk that the baptisms will run over time, which of course means the florists can’t get into the church, etc. Pandemonium, basically!

We decided to have a look at other churches around area and closer to the venue, but to be honest, while although they were so lovely, I just didn’t get ‘the feels’ or any sense of butterflies when I visited them. I’d had my heart set on us getting married in Skerries. After all that’s always been my local church and I felt it would be perfect to marry my soul mate there too.

After telling my mum about it, she gave the parish priest, Fr Richard Hyland, a call and asked if he would meet Dylan and I after mass on Friday evening to see if there was anything that could be done to accommodate us.

Fr Hyland kindly agreed, so myself and Dylan headed in on Friday evening once mass was over and had a chat with him.

We told him about how much I it would mean to us to get married in my local church and that we would have no problem holding the mass a little later than usual so as to allow the families holding the baptisms sufficient time for their photos, etc.

And so…

…after much discussion…

…he told us…

THAT WE COULD GET MARRIED IN SKERRIES CHURCH! Yay!! 🙂

Excuse the mistake in the Snapchat caption! I was typing so fast with excitement!

I have been on cloud nine ever since! It means a lot to me to be able to get married in my home town church and I’m so excited that it’s all now arranged.

I personally think Skerries Church is one of the most beautiful churches in the country! It has the most stunning aisle, as well as the most picturesque space outside for wedding photos.

To make it all official, Fr Hyland then took out the booking form and had us fill it out. It was all a very formal procedure and I still can’t believe how much paperwork is involved!

Although we were calling down to Fr Hyland to persuade him to marry us on that date, we hadn’t planned on officially booking it that exact day so when we had the form in front of us and were ready to sign, it was all a bit of a shock because it really made the whole thing seem so real and exciting!

The wedding day always seems so far away, so nice little milestones like this always remind you that it’s actually going to be happening!

After we filled out the form, Fr Hyland marked our wedding in his diary for August 5th and gave us some notes to take away with us about Canon Laws and the pre-marriage course we will have to undertake (I have heard A LOT about those courses! Not sure if I’m looking forward to them! Haha!)

Then in September we will have to book a meeting with the registrar.

It’s so nice to know that we have two of the most important things – the church and the venue – booked for our big day.

After we left the church we went to Blue Bar in Skerries where we had dinner with my parents and raised a glass to having booked our wedding.

It’s all starting to happen now and were very excited.

Until next time!

Love,

Sue xx
