Top 10 Maternity Summer Dresses!

feature pic maternity

After years of being associated with dungarees and baggy t-shirts, it’s no wonder maternity wear tends to get a bad rap!

Not a week goes by when I don’t get messages/emails and tweets from expectant SoSueMe readers who still sometimes find it difficult to source the right look for an event, be it formal or casual. The good news however is that maternity wear is steadily moving up in the style ranks.

Seeing as how we are now well and truly into the summer season – I decided it was high time to do a post featuring some of the maternity summer dresses I found on ASOS and New Look! Hope it gives you mums-to-be some style inspo! 🙂

Maternity Style Tip: Try to set yourself a budget before you begin shopping for any kind of maternity wear, and force yourself to stick to it. You will be tempted to splurge but just remember that your bump is constantly changing and certain items may not fit you as comfortably after a few weeks.

Dress 1 – Maternity Bandeau Midi Dress With Gingham – €35 – ASOS.com

Designed to fit through all stages of pregnancy, this cute little gingham number is made from a stretch cotton-blend material. The empire line is designed to skim over your bump so comfort is a definite.

Dress 2 – Isabella Oliver Sleeveless Maternity Maxi Dress – was €280 NOW €195 – ASOS.com

This Isabella Oliver maternity gown is perfect for a formal event. Personally –  I’m loving the Grecian vibe here! It’s made from a soft touch stretch fabric, so you can be sure it will be a comfortable elegant fit.

Maternity Style Tip: Material is so so important! The fabric should not itch or irritate your skin in any way. Try to look for clothes that will stretch as your body grows. Jersey fabric, for example, is a lovely flexible fabric that is very soft and comfortable.

Dress 3 – Maternity Lace Trim Bardot Dress – €56 – ASOS.com

Another hot mama hit from the ASOS Maternity range, this gorgeous dress is made from a stretch poly-blend material. I think little details like the sweetheart neckline, the off-shoulder design, and the lace embellishments, make it so feminine!

Dress 4 – Maternity Bandeau Jumpsuit With Wide Leg – €35 – ASOS.com

I never used to associate jumpsuits with maternity wear, but I have to say ASOS really got it right when they included this chic design in their range! It is made from a cotton-rich jersey fabric, has a bandeau design, a stretch waist and a wide leg design for extra comfort.

Dress 5 – Maternity Red Short Sleeve Wrap Dress – approx €18 – New Look

This is one of those multifunctional items that should be a staple part of any maternity wardrobe. It’s perfect as a simple daytime look, especially if paired with sandals or wedges – however the right accessories could easily transform this dress into a night time number.

Dress 6 – Maternity Skater Dress With Lace Insert – €35 – ASOS.com

This pretty lace dress is available in both light blue and black, and is designed to fit through all stages of pregnancy. It is made from a stretch cotton jersey so it’s ideal for summer. The soft pleat detail means it will be very flattering on your bump.

Maternity Style Tip: Don’t forget to pay attention to the material of your maternity bra. If you find yourself getting hot easily, then look for a maternity bra that is made from 100 per cent cotton.

Dress 7 – Little Mistress Maternity Embellished Neckline Swing Dress – €70 – ASOS.com

This Little Mistress Maternity number is one of my favourites! It’s just so pretty and feminine! I personally find the beaded trim so beautiful. It is the perfect outfit for a summer wedding. It’s made from a breathable woven fabric, and from a comfort point of view, it would probably be better suited to those with smaller bumps.

Dress 8 – Little Mistress Maternity Grecian Maxi With Embellished Shoulders – €98 – ASOS.com

This is kind of like the maxi version of dress number 7! It has a fab wrap design around the bust, thus creating great structure and support. It’s made from a poly fabric and would look amazing on every size of bump. The embellishments on the shoulders also give it a very dressy feel.

Dress 9 – MamaLicious Sleeveless Knot Front Jersey Dress – €30 – ASOS.com

This is a casual dress that you can totally accessorise to suit your taste. Wedges would be so pretty with this, as would a colourful shawl. The dress is made from a stretch linen blend, and its this type of fabric that ensures a nice comfortable fit. The wrap knot around the bust and waist will also really flatter your growing bump.

Dress 10 – MamaLicious Frill Sleeve Belted Dress – €39 – ASOS.com

This is just ridiculously cute! It is made from a stretch cotton jersey, and if you don’t want to wear it as a dress, you could always pair with white skinny maternity jeans adn wear it as a long top. It’s a very summery look, and I just think the layered, frill sleeves give it a very pretty edge too.

Hope all you gorgeous mums-to-be enjoyed our style picks!

Happy Shopping!!
