We all know that sinking feeling when we find one of our favourite lipsticks buried in our bag and broken to pieces. Well, what’s a girl to do? Never fear, we have the solution! A broken lipstick can become a DIY lip balm in just a few easy steps. Here’s how…..

You’ll need:

  • Your broken lipstick
  • 1 tbsp of cocoa/shea butter
  • A bowl

To begin use a lollipop stick, coffee stirrer, cuticle pusher or whatever you can find, to scoop out the remainder of your broken lipstick into a bowl.

elle-05-DIY-lipstick-blog-lgnTake a look at the amount of lipstick you have placed in the bowl and add double that amount of shea/cocoa butter to the bowl.

elle-06-DIY-lipstick-blog-lgnThrow the bowl into the microwave for about 10-20 seconds, until half the mixture has melted. Stir the liquid until all the lumps have dissolved.

elle-07-DIY-lipstick-blog-lgnAllow the mixture to cool for a minute and thicken a little, but make sure it is still pourable. Take your empty lipstick tube and twist it so that the inner tube that holds the lipstick moves down as far as it can go.

Pour the melted mixture into the tube. Use an empty lip balm tin to store any left over mixture.

Pop the lipstick tube into the fridge, in an upright position, and allow the mixture to solidify for a couple of hours.

Voilà! You still have the same colour you love, but with the sheer tint of the lip balm.
