Dripping Gold Tan: Your Questions Answered

Our model is wearing the ultra dark shade, which is ideal for tanning sallow skin

Hey guys

Hope you’re all had a great weekend… that weather. The perfect weekend to get your new Dripping God Luxury Tan on and show off your bronzed glow.

Our big tan launch was on Thursday night and we are currently in the middle of getting tan orders ready for pharmacies, Penney’s and other retail outlets. The pre-sale orders went out last week but if for some reason if you didn’t receive your order yet, it should be with you by Tuesday/Wednesday (taking the Bank Holiday into consideration). If you want to check the status of your order, just contact [email protected] and they will look into it for you.

Since launching the tan on April 12, however, we have had an influx of questions relating to the formula, wear off, etc, so today I decided to post a blog answering all of your most frequently asked questions.

If you have any further questions, just pop them in the comment box below.

I’m wearing the ultra dark spray tan here, (you will achieve the same result with the ultra dark mousse which you can pick up here)

Q: What makes Dripping Gold Luxury Tan different to the rest?

After many years of trialing and working with lots of different tanning brands, I feel I know tanning products inside out. I have always craved that beautiful bronzed golden glow, and that is why I set about creating the tan that I myself have always wanted.

Dripping Gold stands out because it results in a stunning natural-looking colour, gives an even fade, and contains ingredients that are specifically aimed at moisturising and nourishing the skin.

With many tan brands, particularly for drier skin types, the lotion would have always been the go-to formula, however being an Irish girl and knowing that Irish skin is typically quite dry, I packed both my mousse and lotion tanning formulas with the most moisturising, nourishing and hydrating ingredients. These ingredients include hyaluronic acid, Vitamin e, Vitamine a, Coconut oil, and shea butter.

All of these are extremely nourishing for the skin, in particular, hyaluronic acid, which is a very premium ingredient to have in a tanning formulation. It hydrates the skin from within, and just one molecule alone can hold up to a thousand time its own weight in water. Not only is it extremely hydrating, it also plumps up the skin and that’s why it is an ingredient that so many skin care brands use.

I can guarantee that the mousse and the lotion are both equally good for dry skin as they are extremely hydrating.

Q: What is the difference between the lotion and the mousse?

The only difference between the two is the texture and how they feel on skin when being applied.

The mousse is quite foamy whereas the lotion is of a thicker, creamier consistency.

If I’m going away on holiday, what I like to do is apply a really good layer of ultra dark mousse the night before I go. I then bring the medium lotion with me to keep my tan topped up while I’m away.

Q: Which one do you use most frequently? The lotion or the mousse?

Honestly, I’m 50/50.  The only difference is the texture, however, I always find a mousse formula to be darker than lotions due to the texture. A mousse it more lightweight and absorbs quicker – but again it’s personal preference and everyones skin is different.

Q: What type of tone does each of the shades give you?

Everyone’s skin tans differently because each individual has different levels of melanin, so bearing that in mind, it’s hard to say for sure what shade you will get, however I have given the tan to my friends and family over the past 12 months and (these are all local Irish girls – some have extremely pale skin, some are sallow, some have psoriasis, some have eczema,) but the feedback from them all was that the tan gives a beautiful golden natural-looking colour.

Here is a more concentrated breakdown of each:

The medium shade will give you a golden olive tone

The dark shade will give you a deep golden tone

The ultra dark shade will give you an intense deep tone.

Q: Whats the difference between dark and ultra dark?

The difference between the dark and the ultra dark shades is the level of DHA contained within it. As I said above, DHA is the ingredient that tans the skin.

Each of the formulas has a golden base but the darker the shade, the higher the level of DHA that’s in it.

The medium and dark shades, however, have a more golden olive tone, whereas the ultra dark shade would have a red-brown colour base so it gives you that holiday suntan that we all love so much.  I love both for different reasons.

When I want to be super tanned, I opt for the ultra dark shade (but in saying that, if you left ultra dark on for 4 hours, you would be left with a dark tone)

Q: How long do you leave the tan on?

The time will vary depending on the shade you would like to achieve. If you want to achieve the true shade colour, whether it be medium, dark or ultra dark, then we advise you leave it on for 6 hours plus. If however you buy the ultra dark shade and you wish to achieve a medium or light colour payoff, then just leave it on for 3 hours to get a medium shade, 4 hours for a dark shade and 6 hours plus to get the ultra dark shade.

So, if you have bought the ultra dark shade and are panicking it might be too dark, don’t worry! You can determine the result you get by the length of time you leave it on for.

The tan worn here is the dark spray tan but the dark mousse will give you the same look. Click here to buy

Q: I ordered the tan during the pre-sale. When will it arrive?

Pre-orders were dispatched last week so you should have it early this coming week, taking into account the Bank Holiday. If there’s an issue, however, or if you want to check the status of your order, just contact [email protected]

Q: Is there a shimmer in your tan?

No, there is no shimmer in the tan however due to the skin hydrating properties and ingredients, it does give the skin a beautiful afterglow. You must remember however that the key to maintaining your tan is moisturising your skin daily when you are wearing it.

This is paramount.

Q: How do you find your tan lasts on holidays?

Every skin type and tan maintenance is different so my answer isn’t going to be a one-size-fits-all solution. This is just based on my own experience. The day before my holidays, I will apply a good layer of my ultra dark mousse (or else I will have a spray tan with my spray solution).

Depending on how long I am going away for, I will bring my medium or dark lotion with me to keep my tan topped up during the trip. If I’m going on a long trip, I will bring my dark mousse and my lotion with me. Normally when I go on a long trip, and if it’s one where I’m in and out of the water, I find my tan will usually fade around the 4th day or so. When this happens, I like to top it up with my lotion.

Before coming home on 6th day, I like to give my skin a nice bronze colour so I’m not paler coming home than I was when I left (typical Irish skin!) To achieve this, I apply a good layer of dark mousse.

All throughout the trip, however, I moisturise frequently to keep my tan looking its absolute best and lasting as long as possible. You should get 4-7 days from your tan if you are in and out of the water but the bottom line is to always bring a lotion or mousse with you so you can keep the tan topped up and have your colour looking fresh for your return home.

Q: Is it suitable for people with allergies?

Yes. It is developed in Ireland and as always we adhere to all EU regulations when developing all products. With regard to skin conditions and allergies, everyone’s skin is different so we would recommend carrying out a patch test 24/48 hours before you plan to apply it.

One of our tan ambassadors, Andrea Rooney, suffers from eczema and she has had no issues

Q: Is it safe for pregnant women to use?

Yes. However, it is best to avoid spray tans in general because the effects of inhaling a spray tan are not known.

Q: Can it be used on the face?

Yes. I use it on my face all the time.

Q: When will the tan be in shops?

The tans will be available in shops next week. if you want to stock the tan, please contact [email protected]

Q: Will it be on sale in the UK?

Right now, it will be on sale in most Irish pharmacies, Primark, Beauty Bay, and on our online store. We are currently in discussion with UK retailers and will keep you guys updated on the Dripping Gold Instagram page.

Q: Is it 100% cruelty-free?

Yes. SOSUbySJ is 100% cruelty-free. The tan is also free from harsh chemicals.

Q: Are you creating any other tanning products?

Yes! We are working on a number of other tanning products including a tan remover! I will keep you posted on the Dripping Gold Beauty Instagram page.

Q: How much does the tan cost?

The medium and dark tan costs €21.95, and the ultra dark tan costs €23.95. The luxury velvet tanning mitt costs €7.95, and the luxury exfoliating mitt costs €7.95

Q: Why is the ultra dark shade slightly more expensive?

In short, the higher the DHA level (the ingredient that tans the skin), the more expensive it is to manufacture. If you look at other tan brands, their ultra dark shade will always be that little bit more expensive than their dark or medium shades for this reason.

Q: How do you open the lotion?

Press the top of the lid and squeeze!

Annnnnd that’s it guys……. I hope you guys love it as much as I do, and I promise it’s worth the wait!
